Coming soon on your library… a Box2D book!

Today I have good news for all you Box2D lovers.

You know I already wrote a book for Packt Publishing called Flash Game Development by Example.

You can find the blog post about it here and you should definitively buy it if you didn’t already.

Now, there’s another book in development with Packt Publishing, and it’s about Box2D and games!!

While most of the book has already been written (I should be able to submit the first draft in about 10 days), I decided to ask for some feedback to blog readers, so… is there some Box2D feature (related to game development) you would absolutely like to see in the book?

oh man… I feel like kissing ya’! I’d greatly appreciate if you could cover all major components of box2D. I think the demo here http://www.box2dflash.org/ covers all. And any tips for speed up the process of building levels.

I don’t know about features, but it would be awesome if you would write this book like the Flash Game Development by Example. Present different games made with box2d, from car games, car-parking games, Angry Birds like games, shooters with ragdolls, you pick :)

Any specific optimisations for using Box2D in mobile games would probably make me buy it!

I, like Andrew before, appreciated very much the previous book for the “from start to finish” structure, that is pretty unique and makes it all very clear.
It would be ultimately awesome in we could find inside another 10 physics games created the same way.
    Should be a best seller.

Also I would pay solid gold for another book by you titled “25 major retro games in Flash by example”.

I’m a bit experienced at flash and stencyl but I am very, very bad at box 2d, I would very much appreciate if this book covers every inch of box2d classes and abbreviation, and please include how to root box2d so that all games would be able to associate with it. Thank you very much, and your first book was very good

    Hi this is great idea!

    Please cast my vote for:

    - Mobile optimization
    - Building unique game plays with box2d (similar to what you did here http://www.emanueleferonato.com/2012/05/11/understanding-box2d-kinematic-bodies/)
    - Please don’t spent to much time on repeating what is available in other docs such as (http://www.box2d.org/manual.html)

Good luck man! And happy anniversary!

It would be nice to learn how to do a Box2D Wrapper, like QuickBox2D, that works with the last Box2D version
    important features:
    - create world (and initialize collision listeners)
    - create box2d objects with textures
    - delete and clear box2D objects
    - Handle collisions
    - Apply forces and impulses

Can’t wait for it come out, like Andrew said – if you’d follow similar pattern like in your previous book with examples for game dev, that would be pretty cool.
Thanks man. Let us know when its out there on the shelves :)

I would love if you cover the bone physics.
I have came across this video in youtube, which was awesome.

Well, this is just wishful thinking but it would be great if there could be programming examples in C++ as well as actionscript.

But also Notes on pitfalls/traps that are going to make your game crash/slow. From experience I made a test project with only about 25 dynamic boxes over a plain and the frame rate dropped to like about 10 fps. That was using someone elses C++ engine though.

    Thanks

Hey, that’s super cool, what would be good is that may include the operation of the camera and some games like Pinball and implementation with the Starling framework, that would be great.

Don’t waste space on rank beginner stuff like ‘this is a variable and this is an array’.. and now here are 45 pages covering how to use the library for every conceivable flash ide from amethyst to flashdevelop. Let the noobs pay their dues and stick to intermediate level stuff and above – make the book challenging but explain in good detail.

I loved your first book and your blog man. Learned so much here. Really look forward to reading.

When will the book be released?
