New minibook released: Create HTML5 vertical endless runner cross platform games

Some months ago I released my first indie minibook From null to full HTML5 cross platform game just to test the differences between writing a book for a publisher Vs self publishing a book and I was really surprised how good it performed and for the awesome feedback I received.

Today I am ready to show a brand new minibook about a topic I am sure you will find really interesing: Create HTML5 vertical endless runner cross platform games.

I am calling it “minibook” but it’s not that “mini” since it already counts 143 pages, with more to come with free updates about a game trend which is gaining more and more popularity.

As the title suggests, I will take you by hand through the creation of two endless runner games like Rise Above and 2 Cars using Phaser framework, not only showing you how to code any single feature of both games, but even adding room for improvement and customization.

Do you want to have a look at the games you are learning to make? They are the remake of the iOS blockbuster Rise Above game by Norman Rozental and 2 Cars by Ketchapp Studio. You may need to click or tap on the games to make them start

During these months I published more than 130 Phaser tutorials and prototypes – not to mention my previous book – but this is the most detailed guide about the making of a game.

Through 143 pages and 48 source code examples you will learn even the smallest detail in the making of a vertical endless runner game, have a look at the content:

By the end of the book, you will have two complete vertical endless runner games made by you, and a lot of experience in game development.

I tried to put all the experience I made in the making of my previous books into this one, and I am sure you will find it easy and useful. I am sure you won’t find a book covering more in depth the creation of these kind of games.

The book is for every audience, from novice JavaScript users which will be taken by hand to advanced developers looking for some tricks using Phaser framework.

  • Hello.
Bought the book with PayPal, but never got any book!?!?

    What to do?

    • Emanuele Feronato

You should have received an automatic email. Check your spam folder or write to with your paypal email.

      • Found it in the spam.
        Thanx. =)

      • Yushunzheng(

Hello, I has paid for your Ultimate HTML5 pack successfully, but did not receive your automate email in my QQ Email(, I am from Shanghai, China, I has sent an email to you. I hope I can get your book and source code Over the next few days. thanks ^_^

        • Emanuele Feronato

Hello, glad to see now everything is working.

  • Matthew

    Hi Emanuele,

Thanks for creating this tutorial/book, I purchased it last week. I have one query, though. In the section “Using swipe to move back the ship” the implementation doesn’t move the ship back. In fact, even in your demo above that never happens when swiping.

Am I missing something, or does that feature not actually work?

    thanks in advance,

    • Emanuele Feronato

      Hello Matthew,
which browser are you using? It’s working on all my mobile and desktop browsers.

      • Matthew

        • Matthew

The game works fine, the only bit that I have never seen the the ship traveling back down the screen when I swipe the mouse.

      • Matthew

Here’s an animated GIF if me playing the game on your website, the ship never stops going up the screen:

        • Emanuele Feronato

I see your mouse is not moving, how do you swipe^

          • Matthew

Ahh ok, by holding and dragging the mouse it works in your demo above (I was click swiping). Now to figure out why I am not getting that same response in my implementation following your book. Thanks for the feedback Emanuele, I’ll go and recheck all my code.

  • Emanuele Feronato

Good you made it work Matthew! Hope you’ll fix your code soon. Thank you for the feedback anyway!!

  • Hey Emanuele,

I would just like to ask when does the promotion end? I can’t buy right now, but will in few days, and I don’t want to miss it.

    • Emanuele Feronato

Hello Nikola. It’s not a promotion, the book keeps the price until it’s updated, and readers who purchased the book will always receive free updates. At any update the price raises a bit, and probably first update will be ready by the end of january, so I think you have time.

      • Hey Emanuele,

Just to let you know I just bought it and that am looking forward to learn new things from it.

        Take care,

        • Emanuele Feronato

          Thank you!

I have a question about your books.

I am currently taking flash and learning action script 3.0.

    1) Are your books based on flash or different software and if it is different softwares which ones are they?

    2) Will the books help me now in my learning action script and building games in Flash?

I am planning on taking C++ or java next semester.

Thank you so much for your time :)
    Have a lovely day… Ciao.

    • Emanuele Feronato

This minibook covers HTML5 and Phaser. I would suggest you to start using HTML5 as at the moment it has a brighter future and support than Flash and AS3
